Standards

Standards you can hold us to.

These are the rules every story follows. If one ever breaks, it gets said here first.

The eight rules

the whole list, no fine print

Sources you can check

Every fact links to the original record, dataset or document. If you can’t check it, it doesn’t run.

Every side gets asked

People and institutions in a story get a fair chance to respond before publication, and their answer runs with it.

Many outlets, not one

Reporting is checked against coverage across the political spectrum, with a clear note on where outlets agree and where they split.

Corrections in public

Errors are fixed openly, dated and logged on the Corrections page. The original wording stays visible.

Apples to apples

Numbers are only compared with numbers from the same report, measured the same way.

Tools disclosed

We use AI tools to help gather and organize research. Every fact is verified against primary sources before it runs.

Facts only

Every story is facts, numbers, dates and where they came from. No opinion and no commentary.

Numbers that clarify

Numbers are used to make a story simpler to understand, not bigger or smaller than it is. Charts start at zero, and the full number is shown next to any percentage.
